Restaining your fence is as simple as applying another coat of fence stain over a previous application of Wood Defenderâ„¢. The Wood Defender Fence Stain product can penetrate itself, so there is no need to powerwash or strip back to bare wood. If there is no mildew present or darkening of the surface, you can apply a fresh coat of Wood Defender. If there is any mildew present, then it would be advised to apply a coat of bleach to first address any mildew. Once the bleach wash has dried for a minimum of 24 hours, you can then apply the fresh coat of fence stain.
Switching your fence stain color to a darker option is as simple as spraying on the new color. The Wood Defender product can penetrate itself, so making this change is not an issue.
- Prepare the wood surface to be stained.
- If washed, allow it to completely dry.
- Apply the wood stain with a roller or sprayer and saturate the surface.
- Allow the product to penetrate, and using a roller on an extension pole, remove any areas where the product may have puddled on the surface.
Staining exterior furniture makes for a nice-and-easy project with the Wood Defender 200 Series Multi-Purpose and Deck Stain & Seal. On new furniture, ensure the substrate is dry before applying. The product can be applied with a pump sprayer, rags, roller, or paint brushes. Allow the product to completely cure before sitting to minimize the risk of color transfer onto your clothing.
If the furniture is aged, apply a diluted bleach application (two parts bleach and one part water) to remove any mildew that may be present on the surface. Allow the furniture to completely dry before applying the stain.

Our suggested mixture would be two parts Wood Defender EZ Kleen-Up and one part water. Rinse overspray to a safe location, do not allow product to enter waterways or drains.
This should be the last step of the job site. The longer you wait to clean your poles and gate hardware, the less you will have to clean, as the majority will run off. When you’re ready to clean these items, you may simply wipe them down with a dry rag.
